Albany Firebirds News Release
Albany, N.Y., June 16, 2004 â The Albany Conquest will return home this weekend for a crucial arenafootball2 Northeast Division match-up against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers on Friday (June 18) at 7:30 p.m. at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. in a game that will feature a full post-game concert by legendary rock band, Blue Oyster Cult. The first 2,000 fans to enter the field following the game for a post-game autograph session will receive a free 2004 Albany Conquest Team Poster.
For the second time this season, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (8-2) are entering Pepsi Arena for a date with the Albany Conquest (4-6) as the No. 1 ranked team in the arenafootball2 Coaches' Poll. The last time, on May 8, Albany recorded their first victory of the season knocking-off the then undefeated Pioneers, 52-45. In the game, Conquest QB D. Bryant made his first start. Since, he has led his squad to a 4-2 record after Albany had begun the season 0-4.
This divisional rivalry is sure to be hard-fought as the Conquest aim to claw their way into the post-season picture. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is alone in first-place in the Northeast Division and will look to increase their division lead in hopes of cruising into the playoffs, which start in August. Friday's match-up will be the eighth meeting between the two teams, with Albany holding a 6-1 series edge in the previous seven meetings.
Conquest offensive specialist Tony Locke, who is this week's Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Week for arenafootball2, is Bryant's favorite target. Locke's nose for the end zone is quite active, holding a share of the league lead in touchdowns (29) and points (174).
Fans interested in buying tickets to the June 18 game can do so at the Pepsi Arena Box Office or by calling TicketMaster at (518) 476-1000. More information is available by visiting www.albanyconquest.com.
