San Diego Riptide News Release

SAN DIEGO – The San Diego Riptide were assigned OL/DL Dustin Rykert and WR/DB Deondre Alexander by the league office today. OL/DL Rob Moore was reassigned.

Rykert, 24, was chosen by the Oakland Raiders in the sixth round of the 2003 NFL draft. He played college football at Bringham Young University where he was named All-Conference three times from 2000 to 2002 while playing left tackle. In 2000, he started 12 games as part of an offensive line that did not allow a sack in back-to-back games all season. In 2001, he again started every regular season game and was named Most Outstanding Offensive Player at the Liberty Bowl where he scored his first career touchdown. While at BYU, Rykert played with Riptide backup quarterback Kevin Feterik.

"Rykert is an outstanding player," said Head Coach Mouse David. "He's big, strong, and athletic. He's the type of player that would be good anywhere we put him on the line."

Alexander, 23, in his first arenafootball2 season, is the youngest player on the Riptide roster. He played for the Oregon State University Beavers in 2002 after transferring from Palomar College in San Marcos. At Palomar, Alexander was a Mission Central Division All-Star with 74 receptions, 1,201 yards, and 16 touchdowns in 2001. He was a three-year letterman and three-year starter at wide receiver for Fontana High School. He was selected first-team all-league his junior year, first-team CIF Division I, and honorable mention All-CIF Southern Section.

"Alexander has good hands and good speed. He's a bright kid that will take some time to develop his game," said Davis.

Moore played two games with the Riptide and recorded two tackles before being reassigned to the league office.

The Riptide will be taking on the Hawaiian Islanders in Week 12 in Honolulu, Hawaii looking to extend their winning streak to four games. The teams have split their 2004 series 1-1. In their last meeting, the Riptide scored a team record 91 points in what was the highest scoring game in af2 history.

San Diego returns home to the Sports Arena on June 26 to take on the Bakersfield Blitz. Riptide Ball Caps will be given to the first 3,000 fans, courtesy of Sportsbook.com. Tickets are available by stopping by the Sports Arena box office or visiting Ticketmaster Online.
