Laredo Law News Release

LAREDO, Texas – The Laredo Law announced that Stan Petry will join the coaching staff effective immediately. Petry will coach defensive backs for the Law. He replaces Sammy Garza who moved up to a position in the Canadian Football League. The Law is in Oklahoma City this Saturday. Laredo returns home on July 3rd against the Tulsa Talons. For more information or tickets contact the Laredo Law ticket office at (956) 726-GAME (4263) or go on line at www.laredolaw.com.

"Coach Petry will help with our young secondary," said Law head coach Scot Maynard. "He played the position and his background will help him with this job."

Petry, a native of Houston, played 36 games in the NFL. The product of Willowridge High School capped a standout career at Texas Christian University with 2nd team All-Southwest Conference honors in 1988. He was drafted in the fourth round by the NFL Kansas City Chiefs in the 1989 draft. This is Petry's first professional coaching job.

"I am loving it so far," said Petry. "I am just like a big kid out there. The other day I wanted to put the pads on myself. I am not that far removed from the game and am excited to be in coaching."

Petry played for the Chiefs, Saints and Oilers in his NFL career. In 1994 he played with the Baltimore Stallions in the CFL.

Petry spent four years in the Arena Football League starting with the Milwaukee Mustangs in 1995-97 and then with the Grand Rapids Griffins in 1998.

GARZA MOVES UP

Law coach Sammy Garza has left the team and moved up to the Canadian Football League. Garza will coach with the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

"It is a league that Sammy has played in and coached in before," said Maynard. "He has relatives up there in Canada, plus it is a great chance for him to take care of his family."

Previously this season Law QB Josh Rogers received a tryout with the Calgary Stampeders and was signed to a tryout deal by the CFL team.

The Law is offering four tickets for forty dollars for every remaining home game.
