Florida Firecats News Release

Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats (7-3) make the long trip to Fayetteville, North Carolina, this weekend for a rematch with the Cape Fear Wildcats (5-3).

"Cape Fear is our toughest opponent during this stretch," Magic Benton, Firecats' receiver, said. "If we can get past them, then the sky is the limit."

Benton returned an interception for a touchdown last week on what was only his second defensive play of the year. Benton has also caught 53 passes for 698 yards and 16 touchdowns.

Quarterback Ken Mastrole's other favorite target, Cainon Lamb, has caught 69 balls for 635 yards and 19 touchdowns. Lamb has also returned a kickoff for a touchdown, and he has run in another score. Lamb has also added 21.5 tackles (one for a loss), one sack, one interception, six breakups and a fumble recovery on defense.

Quarterback Ken Mastrole has completed 182 of 302 pass attempts (60%) for 2,140 yards and 50 touchdowns. He needs only 289 yards to break the Firecats' single season passing yardage record.

Receiver Anthony Snead has caught 27 passes for 429 yards and 11 touchdowns. Brent Burnside has 25 receptions for 233 yards and four touchdowns.

Heading up the best offensive backfield in the af2 is Steve Gorrie. Gorrie has run 68 times for a league leading 313 yards and nine touchdowns. Gorrie has already produced the tenth highest season total in af2 history. Backing up is the able Chris Morant. Morant has 30 carries for 123 yards and five touchdowns.

Starting up front for the Firecats will be Comone Fisher, Joe Fantigrassi, and Brian Devine.

The potent Firecat defensive backfield will consist of Quincy Sorrell, Roy Stabler, and Desmond Washington. Sorrell had eleven solo stops and two interceptions (one for a touchdown) last week. In the middle for the Firecats will be Chris Morant, Cainon Lamb, and Steve Gorrie. Morant has 23.5 tackles (six for a loss), four sacks, four breakups, four hurries, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and two blocked kicks this season.

"Everyone on this defense has been playing as a team, and we have been on the same page," Morant said. "We make the stops that we have to in order to win."

On the defensive front, Comone Fisher, Keith Drayton, Victor Hall, and Rashieem Reed lead the way.

Kicking will be Matt Groff. Cainon Lamb will be holding and returning kicks with Magic Benton.
