Arkansas Travelers News Release

Drillers Stadium, Tulsa, OK - Arkansas OF Jason Aspito bashed two home runs (2) to lead the Travelers (5-3) to a 7-2 victory over the Tulsa Drillers (4-3) to break a three-game losing streak. Aspito went 3-4 with three RBI and three runs scored as the Travs broke out of an offensive slump that saw them score four runs in four games. Travs LHP Tim Bittner (2-0) earned his second straight win by striking out seven Drillers in 5.2 innings. Bittner, who has won all seven decisions since the Angels acquired him last July in a trade, allowed just two hits, two walks and one run. Arkansas C Jeff Mathis belted a solo home run (1), and RHP Scott Schneider pitched 2.1 perfect relief innings.

Leading off the top of the third inning, DH Alberto Callaspo drew a walk and moved to second base on a fielder's choice. 1B Casey Kotchman then bounced back to RHP Travis Anderson (0-1), who threw to third base to start a rundown, but 3B Corey Slavik dropped the throw. Arkansas 3B Dallas McPherson followed with an RBI single to center field for a 1-0 lead.

OF Nick Gorneault drew a leadoff walk from RHP Sean Green to start the fourth inning. Aspito followed with a two-run homer to left-center field for a 3-0 lead.

Bittner set down 11 of the first 12 batters he faced until 1B Ryan Shealy hit a solo home run (3) in the fourth inning.

Aspito cracked his second home run of the game with one out and nobody on base in the sixth inning for a 4-1 lead.

Mathis belted a solo homer to start the eighth inning against RHP Gerrit Simpson. Casey Smith added an RBI single to score Aspito, and Callaspo knocked Smith home on a fielder's choice to cap the Travs' scoring.

The game was played in 2:37 and the paid attendance was 3,870.

Arkansas battles Tulsa Thursday night at Drillers Stadium in the second game of a four-game series. The Travs have LHP Tim Bittner (1-0) scheduled to pitch against RHP Travis Anderson. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
