Long Beach Ice Dogs News Release

Last Weeks Highlights:

1/16/04 > Long Beach 3 @ Idaho 2 (SO)

The Ice Dogs won for the first time in Idaho since November 23, 2001 in the 3-2 shootout victory. Darren Partch got the Ice Dogs on the board first, but the Steelheads answered back with two goals to take a 2-1 lead. Alex Kim tied it up to send the game into overtime. After a scoreless overtime the teams battled it out through eight shootout rounds before finally winning on a goal by newcomer Derek Seal.

1/18/04 > Long Beach 3 @ Idaho 2 (SO)

The Ice Dogs ended a very successful trip to Boise with another 3-2 shootout victory Sunday night. Long Beach took a 2-0 lead when Kevin McDonald scored his first goal since returning form an injury that kept him sidelined for over a month. But the Steelheads fought back to tie the score at 2-2 midway through the third period. The teams skated to another scoreless overtime period, but it would only take the Ice Dogs four shootout rounds to earn their second consecutive victory and third in their last four.

This Weeks’ Games:

1/23/04 > Long Beach vs. San Diego

The Ice Dogs return home to take on their rivals to the south, the San Diego Gulls. The Gulls have won the last four meetings between the two, last winning by a score of 4-2 at San Diego on December 30. The Ice Dogs are coming off two big wins in Idaho and have won three of their last four games. This will be the sixth meeting of the year for these teams, and will meet again five more times after this.

1/24/04 > Long Beach vs. Fresno

The Ice Dogs will take on another division rival Saturday night when the Fresno Falcons come to town. Both of these teams have won every game on their home ice against the other and the Ice Dogs will be looking to extend that trend Saturday. The first 2,500 fans in attendance will receive the third and final Spike nesting doll in the series, courtesy of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
