Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL today joined several local children in their fight against cancer by unveiling the first annual "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" program.

The Boardwalk Bullies "Face-off Against Kids Cancer" commences on Tuesday, January 27 from 4PM-6PM at the Meet-And-Greet Pizza Party at Chuck E. Cheese located at 4215 Black Horse Pike in Mays Landing. Twenty kids from Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, Delaware, many of whom live in South Jersey, will be apart of the program. Other events planned include a movie matinee on Sunday, February 8 at Ventnor Movie Theater, a trip to Boardwalk Hall on Sunday, February 22 to watch the Bullies battle the Bakersfield Condors followed by a special locker room visit, and an ice cream sundae party on Sunday, March 14.

"This is a cause that as an organization we strongly believe in," said Bullies Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle. "Much is made these days about the heart and courage of professional athletes, but it's the courage of these everyday children that we should truly admire."

Originated by the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL last season, "Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will pair each Bullies player with an area child who suffers from early stages of pediatric cancer. This personal relationship will develop through a series of social events over the next few months in which the player and child will participate together in a number of different activities.

"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" will culminate on Wednesday, March 17 and Friday, March 19 when the Bullies take the ice wearing special commemorative jerseys dedicated to each child. During both games and through March 31, the jerseys will be auctioned off in a special silent auction. All proceeds will benefit Caps For Kids, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing hats signed by athletes and entertainers to kids who lose their hair due to chemotherapy treatments of cancer, and duPont Hospital for Children.

Lee Lucas, a licensed clinical social worker for the hematology and oncology unit at duPont Hospital, expressed her gratitude towards the Boardwalk Bullies organization. "We are absolutely thrilled to be joining the Bullies in this program for our children. You would be amazed sometimes at what seeing a big smile and friendly face can do for these kids."

"Face-Off Against Kids Cancer" drew tremendous support last year in Mississippi. The Mississippi Sea Wolves hockey team raised a grand total of $54,025 dollars benefitting Caps For Kids and Candlelighters for Childhood Cancer of the Gulf Coast.

"The 'Face-Off Against Kids Cancer' program has been great to pull the community together," said Mississippi Sea Wolves President Bo McMurphy. "It's magical for the kids and it's even more beneficial for the players. It really puts life in perspective for everyone."

The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies are in second place in the Northern Division at 26-10-1 with 53 points at the All-Star break, 5 points behind the Wheeling Nailers with three games in hand.

The Bullies travel to Cincinnati to battle the Cyclones at 7:30PM on Saturday, January 24 and at 3PM on Sunday, January 25. Catch both games live on ESPN Radio 1450AM and on the Surfer Network at www.boardwalkbullies.com.

The Bullies commence their second-half home schedule at 7:05PM on Wednesday, January 28 against the first place Wheeling Nailers. Every Wednesday home game this season is a "Wild Wednesday" sponsored by Coors Light and Molson Canadian. All college students, casino workers, military, and service industry personnel get in for just $6 dollars. Also, enjoy a special beer and hot dog combo for just $4 dollars.
