Zummack's Four-Point Effort Leads Chiefs to Weekend Sweep

Langley, B.C. - Spokane Chiefs forward Eli Zummack extended his WHL-leading point streak to 17 games, scoring twice and adding two assists to lead the way in a 6-3 win over Vancouver on Saturday night.

Spokane struck first just 1:38 into regulation as Zummack created a rebound chance for Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Filip Kral, who guided it in for his 10th goal of the season.

Zummack potted one of his own at 4:15, this time capitalizing on a beautiful assist by linemate Luke Toporowski, who settled a bouncing puck before tucking it back against the grain from left to right for the setup.

The Giants stormed back with two power play goals to tie the game up midway through the opening frame -- scored by Tristen Nielsen (20) and Tyler Preziuso (15) -- before taking their first lead of the night on Zack Ostapchuk's fourth of the year with 42 seconds left in the stanza.

Minnesota Wild prospect Adam Beckman chimed in with the only goal of the second period and his 30th of the season at 15:04. Cordel Larson forced a turnover with an aggressive forecheck and Jack Finley scooped up the loose puck behind the net to find Beckman waiting on the doorstep. The goal pushed Beckman's own point streak out to 13 games, with goals in 11.

Spokane regained the lead at 9:35 of the third as Zummack struck again, once again capitalizing on a centering feed from Toporowski on the left wing to beat goaltender David Tendeck and make it 4-3 Chiefs. Rookie defenseman Graham Sward earned his second assist of the night with the clearing pass to spring Toporowski down the left side.

Larson and Leif Mattson tapped in empty-netters late to seal it as Spokane capped a sweep of the home-and-home weekend with the Giants. The Chiefs finish their season series against Vancouver with a 3-0-1-0 record.

Spokane goalie and Los Angeles Kings prospect Lukas Parik turned away 29 of 32 shots faced on Saturday night, including a key save on a penalty shot by Neilsen in the first period. Tendeck made 26 saves on 30 shots faced for Vancouver.

Spokane finished the game 0-for-1 on the power play and 2-for-4 on the penalty kill.
