Z's Use 5-Run 6th to Down Royals
July 5, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
The New Orleans Zephyrs used a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by home runs by Brad Davis and Logan Morrison, defeating the Omaha Royals 5-0 on Monday night.
Scoreless through 5½ innings, Davis broke the tie by launching a solo home run to left field, his sixth long ball of the year.
The home run for Davis broke a 0-for-17 slump, dating back to June 23 against the Oklahoma City RedHawks.
After back-to-back hits including a RBI single by Danny Richar, Morrison hit a three-run homer, his fifth of the year and first at Zephyr Field, to give the Z's a 5-0 lead.
New Orleans starting pitcher Brian Lawrence improved to 8-5 while surrendering seven hits and one walk while striking out four over 6 1/3 innings.
Z's relievers Dan Meyer and Brett Sinkbeil combined for 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing just one hit in the Zephyrs eighth shutout of the year.
For Omaha, starting pitcher Manauris Baez dropped to 1-1 after allowing four earned runs over five innings.
The Z's and Royals return to Zephyr Field for game three of the four-game tilt when southpaw Wes Whisler (0-1, 4.09) matches up against Omaha righty Brian Bullington (5-1, 2.85).
