
Z's Suffer Jetlag in 6-2 Loss in Fresno

Fresno, California - The Zephyrs opened an eight game west coast road trip on Thursday night in Fresno and dropped the first game 6-2 to the Grizzlies. Fresno starting pitcher Josh Banks pitched seven innings, allowed four hits and one run. Banks improved to 3-2 on the season. The 28-year old did not allow a Zephyrs hit until the sixth inning.
The Grizzlies offense scored two runs in the first inning, two more in the third and two in the fifth and the Zephyrs trailed 6-0. The Grizzlies picked up a pair of two run home runs from Brandon Belt and Brad Eldred. Bryan Petersen singled in the sixth and scored on a Vinny Rottino double. New Orleans added a second run in the ninth inning on a Ruben Gotay pinch hit RBI.
Zephyr starter Elih Villanueva suffered his fourth defeat (4-4) as he allowed 6 runs on eight hits in five innings of work.
Game Notes - Vinny Rottino extended his on base streak to 25 games, second longest streak in the PCL this season. The Zephyrs added 3b Matt Dominguez from Class AA Jacksonville. The 21-year-old Dominguez is the Florida Marlins top prospect according to Baseball America. New Orleans also added catcher John Baker on a Major League rehab assignment.
Coming Up: The Zephyrs and Fresno Grizzlies meet in the second game of the series tonight at 9:05. New Orleans will start RH Jay Buente (3-0, 1.94) vs. RH Shane Loux (2-4, 3.75) RADIO: WMTI 106.1 FM.
