New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release
NASHVILLE, Tennessee - New Orleans Zephyrs first basemen Ben Lasater doubled, homered and picked up four RBI as the visiting Zephyrs defeated Nashville 12-0 at Greer Stadium to earn their first win of the season.
The two starting pitchers dueled pitching five shutout innings. The Z's centerfielder Kevin Mattison threw out Dayton Buller at the plate to end the fifth inning. In the sixth the Z's hit Sounds reliever Michael Olmstead with three hits and a walk to plate four runs. Lasater drove in a run and Matt Diaz drove home a pair.
The Z's tacked on four in the seventh inning including the Lasater three run home run. Matt Downs smacked a two run home run in the eighth.
Brad Hand earned the win for the Zephyrs and Olmstead suffered the loss for Nashville. Hand worked five innings allowed no runs on four hits and struckout seven. Sounds starter Hiram Burgos picthed five innings allowing no runs on two hits. The teams have split the first two games.
