Z's Rally with Three in the Ninth and Defeat Beavers, 5-4

PORTLAND, Oregon -- Kyle Logan and Henri Stanley keyed a three-run rally in the top of the ninth inning to lift the New Orleans Zephyrs (42-31) over the Portland Beavers (38-36), 5-4 on Wednesday Night in Portland.

Portland took a 4 to 2 lead into the top of the ninth and brought in closer Courtney Duncan who is second in the PCL with 17 saves. Raul Chavez grounded out to short to start the inning followed by pinch hitter Alan Zinter striking out. Zephyrs catcher John Buck reached on an error by Duncan and advanced to third base on a single by Jason Alfaro. Logan doubled down the right field line to pull New Orleans to within one run at 4-3. Alfaro then scored on a passed ball to tie the score before Stanley ripped a single that put the Zephyrs ahead. Kirk Bullinger pitched a perfect ninth to record his tenth save of the season.

Buck led off the second inning with his second homer of the year and Jason Lane launched a solo shot in the sixth. Ken Vining (1-2) allowed a hit in one inning to pick up the win. The Z's now have won five of its last six games and lead the PCL East Division by four games over Nashville. Rich Gomez drove home two runs with a single in the fourth inning and Wiki Gonzalez gave Portland a 4-2 lead in the sixth with his first homer of the year, a two-run shot. Courtney Duncan (1-3) surrendered three unearned runs and three hits in an inning to take the loss for the Beavers, who dropped to 15-19 this year at PGE Park.
