April 19, 2008 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Fernando Tatis hit a pair of home runs and Victor Mendez drilled a solo shot as the visiting New Orleans Zephyrs defeated the Omaha Royals 6-2 on Saturday night. The three home runs in the contest matched a season best for the Z's hitters. New Orleans starter Tony Armas worked 5.2 innings allowing one unearned run while scattering four hits and earned his first victory. Omaha starter Matt Wright took the loss, his first of the season. Wright was a perfect 2-0 with a 0.67 ERA in four starts last season against the Zephyrs. Lefty Willie Collazo pitched two and a third innings of relief followed by Nate Field finishing the game with a scoreless ninth. Tatis led the Zephyrs offense with 3 RBI. Zephyr second baseman Anderson Machado committed a season high three errors in the contest.

Game Notes: Fernando Tatis drilled his league leading seventh and eighth home runs of the season. It was his second multi home run game of the season. Tatis was in the line up as the designated hitter, first time this season the Z's used the DH. Tatis was not in the original line up and inserted after manager Ken Oberkfell made some changes due to a few injuries. Sixteen games into the season the Zephyrs have one player that has started every game, first baseman Michel Abreu. The series between the Royals and Z's matches the 2nd and 3rd best ERA's in the PCL. The Omaha Royals were expected to start their top prospect Luke Hochevar on Sunday but he will be promoted and will start for the Kansas City Royals at Oakland instead.

Coming Up: Zephyrs RH Ruddy Lugo (2-0, 1.84) will pitch against Omaha Royals lefty Jorge De La Rosa (1-0, 1.86) at 1:35 today in the second game of the four game series at Omaha's Rosenblatt Stadium. Radio: AM 690 WIST.
