Zephyrs Win, 6-5, in Rain-Shortened Game

Metairie, LA -- Royce Huffman scored on a single from Alan Zinter in the bottom of the sixth to break a 5-5 tie as the New Orleans Zephyrs (34-24) defeated the Iowa Cubs (23-34) 6 to 5 on Monday Night in front of 2,206 at Zephyr Field. The game was called in the top of the eighth due to rain.

Iowa scored a run in the top of the first off Zephyrs starter Greg Miller as Trenidad Hubbard scored on a double from Phil Hiatt. The Cubs added two more in the third as Donny Leon hit his first home run of the season, a two run shot off Miller.

Alan Zinter hit a two run homer his sixth homer of the season in the fourth off Cubs starter Wilton Chavez. The Zephyrs took the lead in the fifth scoring a run on a double from Raul Chavez and two runs on a single from Kyle Logan. The Cubs tied the game at 5 with a run in the top of the sixth and then New Orleans took the lead for good on Zinter's single.

The game was halted in the top of the eighth due to rain as the Zephyrs took the field and was called after an hour and a half delay. Miguel Saladin (4-4) picked up the win in relief and Ken Vining picked up his first save of the season tossing a scoreless seventh. Jason Karnuth (0-1) suffered the loss allowing the run in the sixth.

The series with the Cubs concludes on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday's at Zephyrs games is Twizzlers Two for Tuesday. Bring in a Twizzlers proof of purchase and receive two tickets for the price of one. Right hander Doug Sessions (1-1, 3.16) is scheduled to start for the Zephyrs and the Cubs starter is to be announced.
