Frisco doubles up Round Rock
June 2, 2003 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
Getting on base wasn't a big problem for the Round Rock Express Monday night. Staying on base, though, was a bigger issue. The Express bounced into five double plays and the Frisco RoughRiders hit a pair of home runs to defeat Round Rock, 4-2, in front of 8,913 at The Dell Diamond.
Starter Mike Burns was moving along smoothly through the first five innings, giving up only a first inning Laynce Nix home run. Ryan Soules provided a major pull of the emergency break, though. Soules sent a lined shot just over the glove of rightfielder Michael Rosamond and off the railing just over the wall for a three-run homer and a 4-1 lead.
The Express tried to mount a rally, but were rebuffed several times. Double plays killed potential comebacks in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings. Fittingly, with two runners on, a double play also ended the ninth and the game.
Anthony Acevedo, Chris Burke Tommy Whiteman and Gavin Wright each had a pair of hits in the losing cause.
Burns (1-9) was the loser and A.J. Murray (5-2) got the win after giving up one run on six hits in six innings. Spike Lundberg pitched the ninth for his eleventh save.
The Express will welcome the Arkansas Travelers to The Dell Diamond for the first time this year Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
