Great Falls, MT - The Pioneer League of Professional Baseball has named Great Falls Voyagers 1B Corey Zangari the Player of the Week for games played July 9th-15th.
Zangari appeared in six games last week and hit five home runs with 13 RBIs. The 21-year-old Oklahoma native went 8-for-19 (.421) and had one double, one triple, and six runs scored. Zangari's on-base percentage for the week was .480. The homers were all hit in two games. Zangari smacked two dingers on July 10th against Orem, and walloped three more big flies for a new career-high on July 13th, also against Orem. Those three homers helped the Voyagers erase a 10-run deficit in a 15-11 home win.
Zangari was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 6th round of the 2015 draft out of Carl Albert High School in Midwest City, OK. He missed all of last season due to Tommy John surgery. Zangari is in his fourth professional season, and had a brief stint with Great Falls back in 2015. He was a member of the Voyagers 2016 squad that finished with the league's best record at 47-28. Zangari won the weekly league award once previously in June 2016.
Great Falls begins a seven-game road trip with a Wednesday night affair at Orem. The first-place Voyagers close out the first-half with a four-game series at Grand Junction after facing the Owlz for three.
