Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

MISSOULA, MONT - In conjunction with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Missoula Osprey have announced the addition of four players to their roster, headlined by former Osprey pitcher Carlos Hernandez, who spent time in Missoula during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. Pitchers Luis Castillo, Bryan Valdez, and Mailon Arroyo are also set to join the roster.

Carlos Hernandez will appear with the Osprey for the third time in his professional career, this time coming on a rehab assignment. In his first season with Missoula in 2013, the right-handed pitcher owned a 4-5 record in 14 starts, logging 69.1 innings. He compiled 63 strikeouts and held opponents to a .259 batting average. In the following season, Hernandez appeared in 14 games while throwing 70.1 innings. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native struck out 61 batters and finished the season 5-4. In 2016 with Kane County, Hernandez compiled a 7-11 record with a 2.25 ERA in a career-high 123.1 innings.

Luis Castillo joins the Osprey as the right-hander is transferred from Hillsboro. Castillo has made 8 appearances out of the bullpen for the Hops, owning a 2.63 ERA in 13.2 innings. The 23-year-old spent the 2016 season with Missoula, pitching to the tune of an 0-3 record with a 4.04 ERA. In 19 appearances with three starts, Castillo logged 35.2 innings and struck out 38 batters.

For the first time in his career, Bryan Valdez makes his way on to the Osprey roster. The left-hander has split time with the DSL D-backs, AZL D-backs and Hillsboro this season. Starting the year in the DSL, Valdez pitched to a 2-0 record with a 0.50 ERA in three starts. Moving to the AZL after his stellar start, he made one appearance where he threw six scoreless innings before he was transferred to Hillsboro. Valdez appeared in four games out of the bullpen and owned a 2-0 record with a 3.38 ERA.

Rejoining the Osprey roster is pitcher Mailon Arroyo. After seeing action in one game for Missoula at the start of the season, the right-hander dominated in the AZL, pitching to a 1-0 record and holding a 1.08 ERA in seven appearances out of the bullpen.

Andy Toelken, Justin Garcia, and Jake Polancic have all been transferred to Hillsboro as corresponding moves to the announced roster additions for Missoula.

Missoula returns to Ogren Park Allegiance Field Wednesday against the Ogden Raptors to kick off a seven game homestand to end the first half of the 2018 season. To purchase tickets to any home Osprey game, visit the MSO Hub on 140 N Higgins Ave or call (406) 543-3300.
