Zambrano Wins Eastern League Pitcher Of The Week

(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, have announced that RHP Victor Zambrano has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 24th. Zambrano joins RHP Alfredo Aceves, LHP Phil Coke, and RHP George Kontos as Trenton pitchers who have won the Bank of America Pitcher of the Week award this season.
Zambrano made a pair of starts for the Thunder last week and had a record of 2-0, with 11 strikeouts, and compiled a 0.75 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched. Zambrano, who is a native of Los Teques, Venezuela, made his first start of the week last Monday night at Reading. He gave up four hits, walked one, and struck out five in five shutout innings for the win. The 33-year old also faced Reading in his second appearance of the week, and surrendered one run on three hits with one walk. He also recorded six strikeouts over seven innings to pick up the victory at Waterfront Park. Zambrano has a career record of 45-44 with a 4.64 ERA in 187 Major League appearances during parts of seven seasons with Tampa Bay, New York (NL), Toronto and Baltimore. He was signed by the New York Yankees as a minor league free agent on July 31, 2008.

Trenton has an off day on Monday, but will be back in action on Tuesday night against the Bowie Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The first game of the three-game series in Bowie, MD is set to start at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jason Jones (13-5, 2.79) will start for Trenton against Bowie RHP Chris Tillman (9-4, 3.32). Trenton returns home to Waterfront Park on Friday to start a four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants.
