
Defenders Fall, 7-4

READING, PA- Things started out looking good for the Defenders but eventually spiraled out of control as Connecticut dropped its sixth straight with a 7-4 loss to Reading.
The Defenders headed into Monday's matchup vs. Reading with hopes of wiping the slate clean from their past five straight losses. Things started off on the right note as Connecticut took an early 2-0 lead as Eliezer Alfonzo drove in a pair with a base knock in the top of the first.
Connecticut inflated the lead in the top of third frame as Adam Witter sent his 19th homerun of the season over the right-centerfield wall for a 3-0 advantage. The Defenders would add one more in the sixth as Julio Cordido scored on a Kyle Haines base hit through the right side of the infield, Defenders had a sweet 4-0 lead.
Defenders starter, Ben Snyder was cruising until he hit Jeremy Slayden with the first pitch to start the bottom of the sixth. Snyder would give up two base hits in the inning, the last one to Kevin Nelson that plated Slayden and got the R-Phils on the board, 4-1 Defenders.
The seventh inning was one to forget for Connecticut as the R-Phils sent 11 players to the plate and scored a total of six unanswered runs. Reading took their first lead of the game at 7-4.
In the ninth, the Defenders brought the representing tying run to the plate twice but got shut down.
Steve Palazzolo suffered the loss while Joe Bisenius picked up his third win. Defenders starter Ben Snyder gave up just one run as hit scattered six hits, walked one and fanned four in 5.2 innings. Reading starter, Adam Eaton continued to struggle giving up four runs, three earned off of nine hits, strucking out five a similar 5.2 innings.
