Zakreski Signs WHL Standard Player Agreement with Portland

June 28, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Portland Winterhawks News Release

Portland, Ore. - The Portland Winterhawks, proud member club of the Western Hockey League, are pleased to announce the signing of forward Josh Zakreski.

Zakreski (2005) currently plays for the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA program, but has only appeared in five games due to the COVID-19 pandemic shortening the 2020-21 season.

The Blazers have helped to develop many star WHL athletes, including Portland Winterhawks reigning scoring leader and Tampa Bay Lighting prospect Jaydon Dureau and fellow teammate Kade Nolan.

Prior to advancing to the Blazers, the Saskatoon, Sask. native played for the Saskatoon Maniacs and Saskatoon Generals and finished second on both teams in scoring. Through 69 games at the U15 level, Zakreski scored 59 goals and 62 assists for 121 points.

His strong performance led the Winterhawks to selecting him in the eighth round of the 2020 WHL Draft and he becomes the third Winterhawk prospect from the 2005-born class to sign with Portland.
