Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - Zoilo Almonte's grand slam home run capped a six-run fourth inning rally and propelled the Trenton Thunder to a 10-7 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Monday morning in front of 6,526 fans on Education Day at Waterfront Park. Trenton (32-23) finished the homestand with a 6-1 record and moved into a share of first place in the Eastern Division for the first time this season.
After New Hampshire took a 7-3 lead with a five-run third inning, the Thunder roared back with a run in the bottom of the third and six more in the fourth, all scoring with two outs in the inning. Jose Pirela started the rally with a two-out infield RBI single against Fisher Cats starter Chad Jenkins (2-5) making the score 7-5.
David Adams then walked to load the bases and Jenkins was pulled in favor of Yohan Pino. Pino walked Cody Johnson on a 3-2 pitch to pull the Thunder within one run, then Almonte worked the count full before hammering Pino's pitch well out to right making the score 10-7 Trenton. It was the team's league-leading 62nd home run of the season and first grand slam.
The hit made a winner out of Hall (5-5) who rebounded from a slow start to retire the final 10 batters he faced in six innings of work. Ryan Flannery threw the seventh and eighth innings while Preston Claiborne fanned two in a scoreless ninth to earn his fifth save.
The Thunder next head to Erie for a three-game series against the SeaWolves. Game one Tuesday night will have a 7:05 pm first pitch with righty Brett Marshall (6-2) slated to pitch for the Thunder against lefty Ramon Garcia (3-4). Radio coverage on 91.3 FM (WTSR) and also streaming online begins at 6:50 pm.
