Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
BINGHAMTON, NY - The B-Mets and Akron Aeros made it to the top of the sixth inning tied at two before enduring their second suspension in as many days on Monday at NYSEG Stadium. The teams were attempting to complete a game that was suspended in the fourth inning on Sunday. The contest will be finished in Akron, Ohio on June 19. The regularly scheduled game for Monday will also be made up during the series in Akron.
Inheriting a 3-1 count from Sunday's starter Greg Peavey, reliever Armando Rodriguez took the mound for the B-Mets in the restart and struck out Nick Weglarz to end the top of the fourth inning.
After reliever Toru Murata tossed a scoreless fourth, the Aeros tied the game in the top of the fifth. Matt Lawson doubled against Rodriguez to start the frame. With one out, he stole third and came home when catcher Kai Gronauer's throw skipped past Jefry Marte and rolled into left field.
The run proved pivotal when play was halted in the sixth inning. With one out and Adam Abraham owning a 1-2 count, heavy rain forced the halting of play. After a 59-minute delay, the field was inspected and deemed unplayable.
In total, the game has spanned two days and seen four delays, totaling two hours and thirty-two minutes.
In accordance with Rule 4.12(b)(3)(i) of the Major League Rulebook, the suspended game will resume at Canal Park in Akron on June 19 and will be the first game of the series. Rule 4.12(a)(9) dictates the regularly scheduled game for June 19 will be seven innings. The B-Mets will also make up their other "home" game against the Aeros during their trip to Canal Park.
The B-Mets (26-27) head to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to start a three-game series against the Senators Tuesday night at 7:00 PM. LHP Mark Cohoon takes the mound against RHP Paul Demny. The Horizons Federal Credit Union pre-game show for the day's action begins at 6:45 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
