Windsor Spitfires News Release
(Plymouth, MI) - Matt Mistele's hat-trick led the Plymouth Whalers past the Windsor Spitfires, 10-2, on Saturday afternoon, in the exhibition opener for both clubs.
The home side dressed a lineup of primarily veteran players, while the Spitfires opted to ice a team of largely rookies.
The Whalers got on the board with the game's first shot, as Mistele got loose in the Windsor zone before ripping a quick wrister past Spitfires starting goalie Brendan Johnston.
The Spits evened things up on the power play at 6:34, courtesy of a beautiful three-way passing play between Luke Kirwan, Ryan Moore and Logan Brown, who finished the tic-tac-toe effort with a blast past Alex Nedeljkovic from the hash marks.
But it was all Whalers from there, as the home side struck twice in a 2:24 span, with goals from Mathieu Henderson and Mistele's second of the frame, giving them all the offense they'd need.
Bryce Yetman had a pair of goals, while Connor Chatham, Matthew Campagna, Danny Vanderwiel and Francesco Vilardi had the other Plymouth markers.
Mistele's two assists gave him a five-point afternoon.
Aaron Luchuk rounded out the scoring for Windsor.
The two teams will play the back-end of the home-and-home Thursday night at the WFCU Centre.
