Troops Number 26 as Camp Breaks

NORTH BAY, Ont. - The North Bay Battalion carried 26 players out of its four-day training camp, which ended Saturday.

The Battalion, which visits the Sudbury Wolves at 2 p.m. Sunday in the first of six Ontario Hockey League preseason games, numbers five centres, five left wingers, five right wingers, nine defencemen and two goaltenders in the ranks.

The centres are Mike Amadio, Brett McKenzie, Jared Steege, Zach Poirier and Jamie Lewis, who didn ' t attend camp while at home nursing an injury. The left wingers are Nick Paul, Zach Bratina, Mike Baird, Owen Green and David Sherman, while the right wingers comprise Mathew Santos, Alex Henriksson, Calvin Gomes, Hampus Olsson and Kyle Moore.

The defence brigade consists of Marcus McIvor, Kyle Wood, Brenden Miller, Miles Liberati, Riley Bruce, Kyle Locke, Shawn Tessier, Zach Shankar and Mark Shoemaker, while Jake Smith and Evan Cormier are the goaltenders.

Poirier, the Battalion ' s first-round pick in the OHL Priority Selection in April, Green, Sherman, Olsson, Moore, Tessier, Shankar, Shoemaker and Cormier qualify as rookies or first-year players. Tessier and Cormier saw limited action with the Troops last season.

Olsson was North Bay ' s first-round pick in the Canadian Hockey League Import Draft in July, joining fellow Swede Henriksson to make up the club ' s two-man import contingent. Henriksson and Miller are sidelined with injuries suffered in camp.

Lewis, McIvor and Miller are overagers.

The Battalion hosts Sudbury at 2 p.m. Monday in a Labour Day matinee.

Cam Morrison scored two third-period goals to cement a 6-3 victory for Team Green over Team White in the third and last camp intrasquad game.

BATTALION BULLETS: The teams played three 20-minute periods after 25-minute frames in the first two games ... Green secured its first win after White prevailed 8-5 Thursday and the teams tied 7-7 Friday ... McKenzie led camp scorers with four goals, followed by Sherman and Wood with three apiece ... Jack Ondrovic started in goal for Green, surrendering two goals in the first period before Smith blanked White shooters in the middle session and Garrett Forrest allowed one goal in the third period. White starter Eric Pitcher gave up four first-period goals. Cormier shut out opponents in the second period, and Jacob Kment yielded two goals in the third ... Bruce and Poirier received tripping penalties for White, while Olsson took the only Green penalty, also for tripping ... Jamie Huber scored with the man advantage with Bruce in the box ... Steven Harland joined White after two games for Green, replacing Brody Brunet, who left after taking a shot off the shin on Friday ... Ryan Oulahen ran the Green bench, while fellow assistant coach John Dean directed White as head coach Stan Butler observed from the stands.
