Portland, ME- The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, hosted their annual Black/White Scrimmage Sunday night at the Portland Exposition Building. Fellow Celtics assignee Jordan Mickey added 20 as the Black Team downed the White Team, 102-90.
The White Team jumped out to an early 27-23 lead as Omari Johnson, returning from last season's Atlantic Division Championship squad paced the team with 10 points. He scored 14 of his 21 points in the quarter.
Young found his stroke in the second quarter, scoring 10 points for the Black Team, who outscored the White Team 14-2 in the first six minutes to open up a 37-29 lead, but the White Team, paced by Kevin Young with nine (15 total), led the White Team back to cut the Black lead to 50-46 at halftime.
James Young scored the first 11 for the Black Team coming out of halftime and Mickey added six to pace the Black Team to a 78-66 lead through three quarters. Walden and Johnson combined for 10 for the White Team.
The White Team ran out to an 11-0 run to cut the lead to one before James Young scored at the nine minute mark to break the momentum. The two teams traded baskets for the remainder of the game before the Black team pulled away on the hot shooting of Mickey, Clarke and Coron Williams to close out the 102-90 win.
For the Black Team, Young led all scorers with 33 points, with five points and two assists. Mickey fell just short of a triple-double, with 20 points, 15 rebounds and nine blocks. Clarke scored 21, adding eight rebounds in the win. Curtis Washington scored four while adding six rebounds in the win.
