
Warriors Charge Past the Bighorns in Lone Preseason Game

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Reno Bighorns 133-94 in their lone preseason game on Saturday at Kaiser Permanente Arena.
Verdell Jones III led the charge for the Warriors with a double-double, recording 25 points and 10 rebounds, and owning a 90% field goal percentage on the night. Darington Hobson also notched a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. First-round draft pick Jarred Shaw and veteran guard Moe Baker had 17 points apiece.
Vincent Hunter paced the Bighorns with a double-double, totaling 17 points and 12 rebounds. Josiah Turner had a team-high of 20 points, while Chad Toppert and Elijah Pittman each had 12 points on the night.
In their first game action since winning the 2015 D-League Championship in April, the Warriors would lead by as many as 44 points in tonight's contest. Santa Cruz jumped out to a10-point lead after a 9-0 scoring run early in the first quarter. Multiple fast-break opportunities and stellar interior defense helped Santa Cruz to a 31-point lead heading into the break.
The Warriors would never relinquish their hold on Reno, maintaining a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game. Santa Cruz held the edge in nearly every team category, outshooting Reno from beyond the arc (56.3% - 25.0%), scoring more points in the paint (64-32), and dishing out more assists (39-15).
The Santa Cruz Warriors will tip-off regular season play on Friday, November 13 at 7:00 p.m. PST at home against the Bakersfield Jam.
