York Squeaks by Southern Maryland in Game One

Southern Maryland Blue Crabs News Release


(York, PA. August 5th 2015)--- After a seven game homestand Southern Maryland returned to the road for the first time since July 26th and falling to York in game one of a four game set by the 6-5 final.

Southern Maryland took an early 1-0 lead on a Jovan Rosa RBI double. The Blue Crabs then put up a three spot in the top of the fourth. After Casey Frawley doubled, Antone DeJesus followed with a single to score Casey to make it 2-0. Three batters later after a Fred Lewis single, and Casey Stevenson walk, Zach Wilson hit a sacrifice fly to score DeJesus. A couple of batters later with the bases loaded, Jovan Rosa walked to score Fred Lewis to make it 4-0.

The bottom of the fourth, York started a streak of scoring four consecutive innings. In the bottom of the fourth, the Revolution scored on an Andres Perez solo homerun. In the bottom of the fifth, with two runners on Luis De La Cruz scored on a Wilson Valdez RBI groundout. York put up two runs in the bottom of the sixth. With one out, Mikey Reynolds walked. The next batter Andres Perez doubled to score Reynolds to make it 4-3. LHP Trey Barham was pulled out of the bullpen and two batters later, with two outs Luis De La Cruz lashed a single to right field to score Perez to tie the game at 4-4.

The Blue Crabs attempted to rally in the top of the seventh pushing a run across to tie the game at 5-5. The Revolution took the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Jose Constanza started the rally with a line drive single that triggered Blue Crabs manager Stan Cliburn to call Orlando Santos out of the bullpen. Wilson Valdez dropped down a bunt to put Constanza in scoring position. Eric Patterson walked, and the next batter Brandon Boggs lifted a fly ball to right deep enough to score Constanza to make it 5-4. Patterson stole second to get into scoring position, and Bryan Pounds banged out a single to score Patterson to make it 6-5.

RHP Stephen Penney picked up the save to secure the victory for the Revolution. York out hit Southern Maryland 11-10, while neither starting pitcher factored in the decision.

Game two of the series will commence tomorrow at 6:30. LHP Brian Burres (5-6, 3.31) will start for Southern Maryland, while LHP Rommie Lewis (7-7, 3.67) will throw for York.
