York Revolution News Release
Every starter had a base hit as the York Revolution enjoyed a breakout game, snapping out of their road funk with a 10-6 win over the Lancaster Barnstormers in front of 5,759 fans at Clipper Magazine Stadium on Friday evening in the first "War of the Roses" series meeting since York's win in Game 5 of last year's Freedom Division Championship Series. The Revs will go for a series win on Saturday night in Lancaster, having put a three-game losing streak to rest.
The game had an ominous beginning as Adam Godwin connected on a three-run homer to the short porch in right in the second inning spotting Lancaster a quick 3-0 lead, while Barnstormers starter J.D. Durbin retired the first seven batters he faced.
The Revs grabbed their first lead of the night with four runs in the top of the third, all scoring with two outs. Liu Rodriguez slapped a two-run single up the middle for York's first runs, and Chris Nowak drove a two-run double to the gap in left-center giving the Revs a 4-3 lead.
The Barnstormers evened the ledger at 4-4 in the bottom of the third on a two-out RBI single by Blake Gailen, but the Revs took the lead for good with five unanswered over the next two innings.
Ramon Castro and James Shanks led off the fourth inning with singles, and advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Danny Gonzalez. Travis Scott then drove in a run with a single to right, and helped contribute on a second run, breaking up a double play on Scott Grimes' ground ball. Grimes beat the relay to first for a fielder's choice, picking up an RBI on the play to give York a 6-4 lead.
Michael Hernandez led off the fifth inning with a homer to right-center, his league-leading seventh in just 20 games played. Shanks later singled home two more, as the Revs' lead grew to 9-4.
Fehlandt Lentini homered to left in the bottom of the fifth bringing Lancaster within 9-5, but it marked the only Barnstormer to reach base on a 15-batter stretch from the third through eighth innings.
Revs starter Corey Thurman (1-1) retired seven of the final eight he faced, going a season-best five innings to earn his first win. The win came in his 300th start as a pro and his 100th career start with York.
Nowak ripped an RBI double down the left field line in the sixth inning, extending York's lead to 10-5.
Brad Boyer singled home a run for the Barnstormers in the bottom of the eighth but reliever Dumas Garcia retired Emerson Frostad on a popup to leave the bases loaded with the tying run at the plate.
Barnstormers starter J.D. Durbin (1-2) suffered the loss, charged with nine runs (eight earned) on eight hits in 4.1 innings.
York's 13 hits tied a season-high, while Lancaster's 10 runs allowed marked the highest total on the young season for the Barnstormers.
