Lancaster Stormers News Release
Travis Witherspoon drove in three runs, and Isaias Tejeda went 3-for-4 with a homer in his return to York, leading the Revolution to a game two win over the Lancaster Barnstormers and a split of a lengthy Tuesday evening doubleheader.
In the opener, Tyler Bortnick raced home from first on a single to left by Ryan Casteel in the bottom of the ninth, sending Lancaster to a 4-3 victory.
The Revolution took command of the nightcap in the top of the third inning. Melky Mesa led off with a single to left and advanced to second on the second of Tejeda's three hits. A single to right by Jose Cuevas loaded the bases and ended the night for starter John Anderson (0-2). Ryan Dent greeted reliever Garrett Granitz with a game-tying infield single that caromed off the right-hander's foot. Witherspoon doubled into the right field corner for a 5-3 lead, and Dent scored on a Jared Mitchell sacrifice fly to right.
Tejeda homered in the fifth, and Mitchell scored his second run of the game on a throwing error in the top of the sixth.
Rico Noel had staked Lancaster to a 2-1 lead early with a two-run homer, his first long ball of the season, in the bottom of the first inning. A sacrifice fly by Carlos Garcia in the second gave the Barnstormers the 3-2 lead.
Jailen Peguero (2-2) got starter Joe Van Meter out of a bases loaded jam in the third and went on to retire seven straight to earn the win.
The first game was the more competitive of the two. York erased a 2-1 Lancaster lead in the top of the seventh when Mesa and Michael Burgess connected on back-to-back homers off Mike Reynolds to open the inning. In the bottom portion, Noel and Bortnick reached on bunt singles sandwiched around a throwing error on a bunt by Darian Sandford. Blake Gailen tied the game with a sacrifice fly to left, but Welington Dotel kept the Barnstormers from winning it in regulation with an over-the-shoulder catch on the warning track against Casteel later in the inning.
Bortnick reached on a bad throw by third baseman Zach Wilson to start the ninth. Junior Rincon (0-3) struck out Gailen. Casteel rolled a single into left. With Dotel playing deep to prevent the extra base hit, Bortnick sprinted to third. Dotel lobbed a throw into second, and Bortnick raced home with the winning marker.
Kevin Munson (5-2) pitched a scoreless top of the ninth to earn the win.
Joe Gardner (3-6) goes for the Barnstormers on Wednesday evening against left-hander Logan Williamson (3-2). Fireworks will follow the game. Fans may tune into BRC-11 or the Barnstormers YouTube Channel, beginning at 7:00.
