York Evens Series in Blowout Win

Waldorf, MD - Southern Maryland along with their opponents, the York Revolution, came into Tuesday night's contest playing their hottest baseball of the season. The Blue Crabs sported a 10-7 record in their last 17, while the Revs rocked a 10-3 clip in their last 13. After Southern Maryland took the first of a three-game set, York's high octane offense came out in full force, plating a half dozen runs in the first three innings of play in route to a 14-1 series equalizing win for the Revolution.
The scoring started right out of the gate for York with a pair of runs in the top of the first frame. Telvin Nash sent a frozen rope single off of the top of the left field wall to score the former Blue Crab Angelys Nina, and Isaias Tejeda kept it going with a double to bring Nash home, making the score 2-0 Revs in the early going.
Nash struck again in the top of the third inning, as he would send a monstrous home run off the "Proflex" sign in left-center field. The Revs continued the scoring when Ryan Dent singled on a line drive to left field, scoring J.P. Sportman. Two batters later, James Skelton drove in a pair of runs with a double over the head of Blue Crabs right fielder Rubi Silva, giving the Revs a 6-0 lead.
York's starting pitcher, Mitch Atkins (W, 3-4), tossed a complete game, allowing only one run on three hits. The right-hander kept the pitch count down throughout the evening, throwing a total of 103 pitches, including 72 strikes.
After adding a run in the top of the fifth inning, the Revs led 7-0 going into the sixth. In the sixth, the Southern Maryland reliever Ryan Chafee walked in a run and Wellington Dotel followed by smoking a three-RBI double down the third base line, putting the Revs up 11-0.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Blue Crabs responded with their lone run of the night. On the second pitch of the at bat, Tony Thomas hammered a home run over the wall in left field, cutting the deficit to 11-1.
The Revs continued the scoring in the top of the seventh inning, plating three additional runs, giving the Revolution a 14-1 lead. The Blue Crabs bullpen pitched well in the eighth and ninth innings to close out the game, as York would take game two handily, by a final score of 14-1.
The Blue Crabs will return home tomorrow, June 26th, for the series finale of a three-game set against the York Revolution, with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
