Lancaster Stormers News Release
The War of the Roses is now, in fact, a war.
After going down, six games to one, the York Revolution have battled back to win the last two, including a 9-2 thrashing of the host Barnstormers in front of a Fourth of July crowd of 7,567 at Clipper Magazine Stadium.
York scored all it would need in the top of the third off Zack Parker (0-2). With one out, Anthony Manuel smacked a single into center field. He took off for second and might have been cut down, except Lancaster's coverage was late getting to the bag, and the throw from Jed Morris bounced away. P.J. Rose walked to fill in first. Tom Collaro ripped a liner to center, and Michael Woods took a fatal step in as the ball sailed over his head for a two-run triple. Jason Aspito singled to center, scoring a third run. Following a walk to Matt Esquivel, Josh Johnson grounded to third. John Purdom grounded a double down the first base line, scoring two more, and the Barnstormers faced a 5-0 deficit.
Outside of that inning, Parker held the Revolution to just three other hits in his six-inning stint.
Lancaster managed to get one run back in the bottom of the fourth on singles by Woods, Aaron Herr and Gerard Haran off Tim Harikkala (4-1).
The Barnstormers seemed to have a chance to make a run in the seventh. With one out, Michael Campbell doubled down the left field line and scored on Lloyd Turner's single to right. Reliever Brian Holliday coaxed consecutive ground balls out of David Housel and Woods to end the threat.
Ricardo Gomez fired a scoreless seventh for the Barnstormers but loaded the bases on two singles and a walk in the eighth. Eddie Camacho nearly pinned the runners, fanning both Matt Padgett and Ryan Goleski. However, he lost the range, missing the strike zone with eight straight pitches to force home two more runs. An RBI single by Esquivel and RBI double by Johnson against Neal Musser in the ninth put the final markers on the board.
The Barnstormers and Revolution wrap up the four-game series on Sunday afternoon as Cylo's fifth birthday is celebrated. Eric Junge (4-1) will take the hill for Lancaster, and Dan Foli (2-8) will counter for York. Game time is 1:30. Following the Sunday game, the Barnstormers will go on the road for the next 11 days.
