LANCASTER, Pa.- Lancaster Barnstormers righthander Eric Junge has been named Atlantic League pitcher of the month for June. The 6-5, 210-pound veteran went 4-1 with a 1.73 ERA in five games after signing with the team on June 3. He twice matched the franchise record for strikeouts in a single game with 12 on June 13 and 25 and had 34 strikeouts in 26 innings last month.

"When he came here, he was willing to do anything it took to get pitching again," Barnstormers manager Von Hayes said. "We started him out in the bullpen and worked him into the rotation. His stuff has been as good as anybody's in the league the last three outings I have seen him."

Junge is expected to make his sixth appearance for the Barnstormers against the York Revolution Sunday at 1:35 p.m. It's the final game of a four-game series between the War of the Roses rivals. Lancaster led the season series 6-2 through Friday night.

Junge (pronounced Young), 32, has played professionally for 11 seasons. He was drafted out of Bucknell University by the Los Angles Dodgers in the 11th round in 1999. He reached the major leagues with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2002 and 2003 and was 2-0 with a 2.21 ERA in 10 games at that level.

Three Barnstormers have been named pitcher or player of the month during the team's five-year history. Josh Stevens was co-pitcher of the month along with Newark's Matt Sweeney in May of 2007. Michael Woods was player of the month in August of 2008.

Sunday's game also marks Cylo's 5th birthday presented by Willow Valley. The Barnstormers' bovine mascot will welcome DownTown from the York Revolution and Coco of the Hershey Bears, along with other friends as he hosts his annual party. Tickets are still available online at www.lancasterbarnstormers.com or by calling 509-HITS during regular business hours.
