Yanks Churn Out 15 Hits, Beat Bats 7-3

LOUISVILLE, KY- Scranton/Wilkes-Barre jumped on Bats pitching all night and Louisville's defense struggled as they fell 7-3 in front of 10,165 Saturday night at Louisville Slugger Field.

The Yankees hit three straight singles in the top of the second, and two runs came in when Kevin Reese got the fourth hit of the inning. Reese's single to right field rolled under a charging Jay Bruce's glove, allowing Raul Chavez and Brett Gardner to score.

Bats starting pitcher Richie Gardner (2-2, 4.62) made it just three innings, giving up three runs on six hits while walking two in the loss.

Ross Ohlendorf (2-3, 5.22) was effective in five innings of work for the Yankees, surrendering three runs while spreading out eight hits in earning the win. Reese led Scranton/Wilkes-Barre offensively, going 3-for-4 with one RBI and one run.

The Yankees tacked on three runs in the sixth on RBI singles by Justin Christian and Angel Chavez. Christian advanced to second on a passed ball by catcher Ryan Jorgensen, and then scored from third on a wild pitch by Calvin Medlock.

Aaron Herr went 2-for-5 for Louisville, which gave him his 27th multi-hit game of the season. Jay Bruce, who was called up from Double-A Chattanooga before this series, went 2-for-4 and scored two runs.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre didn't have any extra-base hits on the night while racking up 15 singles.

The Bats will look to avoid the sweep in the final game of the series with the Yankees tomorrow night. LHP Phil Dumatrait (9-5, 3.68) gets the start for Louisville against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's RHP Matt DeSalvo (6-1, 2.21). First pitch is scheduled for 6:15 p.m.
