Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Toledo, OH - The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (20-20) and the Toledo Mud Hens (23-19) saved the wildest game of the four game series for last. Friday's game featured a 40 minute power outage at Fifth Third Field two pitches into the game, five combined homers between the Yankees and Mud Hens and a triple play. When the dust settled, the Yankees held on for a 9-8 win to take three of four in the series against Toledo.

The Yankees opened quickly against Mud Hens starter Fu-Te Ni (LP, 2-2) as Kevin Russo led the game off with an infield base hit and moved to second on the first of Colin Curtis' three hits on the night. The next batter for the Yankees was Steve Pearce who hammered a Ni pitch off the scoreboard in left for a three run shot and a 3-0 SWB lead. Ray Kruml extended the power surge to the top of the second inning off Ni, as the outfielder hit his first Triple-A home run with a line drive into the upper deck down the line in right field leading off the inning for a 4-0 Yankees lead. Ni lasted through the third inning before departing but not before allowing a two run homer to Francisco Cervelli and an RBI double to Kevin Russo as the Yankees ran the lead over Toledo to 7-0.

Manny Banuelos allowed two walks and struck out four in his first two innings on the night, before running into trouble in the third. Toledo put five runs on the board, three coming without the benefit of a base hit on a bases loaded walk, a balk and a sacrifice fly. With a 7-3 game, the Mud Hens would pull to within two at 7-5 on Eric Patterson's two run inside the park homerun.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre added another pair of runs in the fifth inning on Curtis' RBI single that scored Cole Garner who led the inning off with a pinch hit double. Curtis used his speed for the second run of the inning steal second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.

The final three runs of the night would be scored by the Mud Hens who scored two in the seventh inning off SWB reliever Nelson Figueroa (WP, 2-1) on a two run homer from Ryan Strieby. Toledo pulled to within one run in the eighth inning off reliever Justin Thomas on an RBI ground out by Omir Santos.

The defensive play of the night came for Toledo in the top of the sixth inning. Ronnier Mustelier led the inning off with a single and moved to second base on a walk from Deron Downs. Cervelli hip a sharp grounder to the bag at third, which was fielded by Audy Ciriaco who stepped on the bag at third forcing Mustelier. Ciriaco then threw to second baseman Argenis Diaz doubling Laird. Diaz fired to Strieby at first base to complete the triple play.

The Yankees road trip through Ohio continues as Scranton/Wilkes-Barre opens up a four game series at Huntington Park against the Columbus Clippers with a 7:05 PM first pitch on Saturday night. The Yankees will send right hander Adam Warren (2-2, 4.58 ERA) to the mound in game one of the series against Clippers lefty Eric Berger (1-1, 2.25).
