MOOSIC, Pa. -- The Indianapolis Indians and the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees were in the midst of an old-fashioned pitchers' duel until left fielder Reid Gorecki snapped a 1-1 tie with a three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to lead the Yankees to a 4-1 win over the Tribe on Tuesday night at PNC Field.

With the loss, Indianapolis' record falls to 35-31, while the win gives Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the four-game series sweep and a 38-28 mark on the season. The victory by the Yankees also closes out the eight-game season series schedule between the two teams with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre holding the final 7-1 advantage, its best single-season record against the Tribe during the Indians' affiliation with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

With the score tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Gorecki strode to the plate with the go-ahead run standing at second base and a much-needed insurance run stationed at first.

Despite having driven in the Yankees' only run of the contest with a sacrifice fly in the home half of the third inning, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre outfielder entered his eighth inning at-bat with an 0-for-2 line attached to his name in the box score. The first pitch of his plate appearance against Indians' reliever Brian Bass (0.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER) erased his hitless tally in an instant.

Gorecki's three-run blast to left field broke open a 1-1 tie and gave International League saves leader Jonathan Albaladejo (1.0 IP, 1 SO) a comfortable 4-1 advantage heading into the ninth inning.

Albaladejo retired DH Brian Myrow, 3B Pedro Alvarez and 1B Jeff Clement in succession on only nine pitches to earn his 22nd save of the season and give Scranton/Wilkes-Barre the four-game sweep of Indianapolis.

Before Gorecki's home run, Tribe RHP Daniel McCutchen (7.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) had cruised through the first seven innings of play, having allowed only three Yankees' batters to reach base, but a lead off double by 3B Matt Cusick ultimately spelled disaster in the eighth inning.

After surrendering the double to Cusick, McCutchen intentionally walked the eighth place hitter, 2B Reegie Corona, before being lifted in favor of Bass.

Bass entered the game with runners on first and second with no outs, and, after a bunt attempt by RF Greg Golson resulted in a force out at third, Gorecki broke open the 1-1 tie with his mammoth three-run home run to left on the first offering of his at-bat.

Before Gorecki's eighth inning heroics, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre snapped a scoreless tie in the home half of the third inning with a sacrifice fly off the left fielder's bat to take the early 1-0 lead.

Cusick opened the frame with line drive double to left field, advanced to third on a groundout by Corona and later touched home when Gorecki drove a 3-0 offering from McCutchen to medium-depth left field to allow Cusick to come plateward.

Indianapolis responded with a run of its own in the top of the fourth inning to tie the contest at 1-1. Alvarez coaxed a five-pitch walk to lead off the inning, and, after Clement flied out for the first out of the inning, the Indians' third baseman stole second to set the stage for an RBI single to center by C Luke Carlin.

McCutchen was strapped with the tough luck loss for the Indians after allowing three runs in seven innings, while Yankees' RHP Ivan Nova (8.0 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO) earned his fifth win of the season with eight innings of stellar work.

Carlin (2-for-3, 1 RBI) was the only Indianapolis hitter to record multiple hits on the evening, while Cusick (2-for-3, 1 R, 2 2B) was the lone Scranton/Wilkes-Barre batter to tally more than one base knock in the contest.

Following a day off, the Indians continue their eight-game road trip with a four-game set against the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday, June 17 at 7:05 p.m. RHP Hayden Penn is expected to get the start for the Tribe, while LHP Pat Misch is the probable starter for the Bisons.

The contest will be carried by WXLW-950 AM and www.IndyIndians.com with Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley on the call. The pre-game show begins at 6:45 p.m.
