TODAY'S GAME: Tonight, the Bisons face the Lehigh Valley IronPigs in the final game of a four-game series at Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.). The Bisons snapped their seven-game losing streak last night with a 7-6 victory. With a win tonight, the Bisons would split the series. After a league-wide off day tomorrow, the Bisons continue their eight-game homestand with a four-game series against Indianapolis.
vs. THE IRONPIGS: The Bisons trail the IronPigs 4-3 in the 16-game season series. The two clubs split a four-game set in Lehigh Valley, May 22-25. In their brief existence, the IronPigs hold the 22-17 advantage over the Bisons. Buffalo has won two of the previous four sets played here at Coca-Cola Field.
GRAND FINISH: Trailing by three in the ninth inning last night, OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ smashed a walk-off grand slam off RHP Scott Mathieson for the victory. Martinez's walk-off slam was only the second in the history of Coca-Cola field. The last time the feat was accomplished was August 2, 1999, when INF MARCO SCUTARO hit one against Syracuse.
MORE F-MART: OF FERNANDO MARTINEZ now has seven hits in his four games since returning to the Bisons on June 11. The outfielder has averaged .438 (7-16) with two doubles, two home runs and seven runs scored. The outfielder missed 23 games with Buffalo because of a left hamstring strain. Martinez was on the disabled list from May 14 - June 7.
HOLY THOLE: C JOSH THOLE went 3-3 with two runs, two doubles, a home run and a RBI in last night's win. Thole now leads the Herd with 18 doubles on the season, a total that is also good for 5th best in the International League. Since May 18, the catcher has averaged .426 (23-54) with eight multi-hit efforts in his last 17 games played. The stretch has raised Thole's season average almost 80 points, from .198 to .277.
KEEP ON TURNIN': INF JUSTIN TURNER has reached base in all 17 games he's played with the Bisons. The infielder has a .324 (22-68) average in his time with Buffalo. Turner has five doubles in his last five games.
METS UPDATE: The Mets (35-28) had an off day yesterday. New York will travel to Cleveland tonight for the start of a three-game series with the Indians (7:05 p.m.). LHP JOHAN SANTANA will start on the mound for tonight's game. On Friday June 18, the Mets will head to New York to face the Yankees for the Subway Series. The Mets are currently 2nd in the N.L. East, just 1.5 games behind Atlanta.
