Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees News Release

Reid Gorecki did not know it was the eighth inning as he rounded the bases after hitting a three-run home run that helped the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees pull out a 4-1 victory over the Indianapolis Indians.

"I thought it was the seventh inning going in," Gorecki said. "When I looked up at the scoreboard and saw it was the bottom of the eighth, I was understanding why the guys were so happy. We were looking at extra innings."

After Matt Cusick doubled for the second time in the game to lead off the inning, the Indians intentionally walked Reegie Corona to put runners at first and second.

Greg Golson then attempted to get the runners over on a bunt, but failed as Indians pitcher Brian Bass threw Cusick out at third.

Gorecki then stepped up and took a high-and-tight fastball over the wall in left field for his second home run of the season.

"I was looking for a pitch up in the zone," Gorecki said. "I got the heater, it was up-and-in, and I just tried to put the barrel on it."

The two teams entered the inning tied at 1-1 with Indianapolis starter Daniel McCutchen and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Ivan Nova trading zeroes throughout the ballgame.

McCutchen tossed seven innings of three-run, three-hit ball, striking out 3 while walking one. At one point in the game, McCutchen had retired 14 of 15 batters he faced.

Nova, however, proved to be better, going eight innings and giving up just one run. The righty allowed five hits and struck out five while walking two batters.

"Every time that I go out, that's what I'm trying to do-go deep in the game," Nova said.

The outing added to Nova's strong June. Through three starts this month, Nova is 3-0 with a 1.78 ERA, allowing just four earned runs in 20 2/3 innings of work.

Jonathan Albaladejo came in to pitch the ninth inning for the Yankees and picked up his 22nd save on the season with a 1-2-3 inning.

With the win, the Yankees swept Indianapolis in the four game series and now find themselves 10 games over .500. The team also improved to 23-11 inside the friendly confines of PNC Field.

After a day off Wednesday, the Yankees will travel to Leghigh Valley to face the IronPigs in a four-game series. Zach McAllister will start things off for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, taking on Lehigh Valley's Brian Mazone Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
