Staten Island Yankees News Release

STATEN ISLAND - Junior Soto (2-for-4 with an RBI) and Jesus Bastidas (2-for-3 with a run scored) each posted multi-hit games, but the Staten Island Yankees fell to the Aberdeen IronBirds 7-5 at Richmond County Ballpark on Tuesday night.

Aberdeen took the lead first in the top of the third inning, when Austin Hayes, a top Baltimore Orioles prospect rehabbing from Double-A, hit a two-run double off the centerfield wall.

After Alex Junior drove home Andy Diaz with a fly ball to centerfield in the bottom of the third, Aberdeen followed up with a run of their own in the fourth inning, before Soto knocked home Eric Wagaman with a base hit up the middle, cutting the IronBirds' lead to 3-2.

However, despite Staten Island scoring two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the bottom of the ninth, three in the top of the fifth and one score in the top of the seventh by the IronBirds put the score out of reach.

Staten Island will look to avoid the sweep tomorrow, when they conclude this three-game series against Aberdeen tomorrow. Getting the ball for the Yankees will be Chase Hutchison, with Willie Rios starting for the IronBirds. First pitch will be at 12:00 p.m., for the second camp day of the season.
