NORWICH, Ct. - Wenceel Perez drove in two runs and Yaya Chentouf earned his New York-Penn League-leading eighth save this season as the Connecticut Tigers (22-21) secured their second win in a three-game series, 3-1 over the Vermont Lake Monsters (21-24) on Wednesday night at Dodd Stadium.

Connecticut rallied to break a scoreless draw in the bottom of the fifth inning. After back-to-back walks issued by Vermont reliever Abdiel Mendoza (Loss, 2-3), Perez lined a single to left that scored Clark Brinkman from second base.

Leading 1-0 in the seventh, Brinkman scored again from third base on a wild pitch by 6-foot-7-inch reliever Jeferson Mejia and Perez drove in a second run on a groundball to second base that plated Shane Cooper for a 3-0 lead. Perez, an 18-year-old shortstop from the Dominican Republic, finished 1-for-4 at the plate to record his eighth base hit and eighth run batted in during his last four games.

Connecticut relievers wiggled out of jams in the seventh and eighth innings. The Lake Monsters loaded the bases against Mitchell Stalsberg (Hold, 3) but Drew Crosby (Hold, 5) entered and induced a 5-2-3 double play turned by Cooper, Gresuan Silverio, and Jordan Verdon to end the inning.

Vermont cut the Connecticut lead to 3-1 in the eighth inning on an RBI single to center field by Alfonso Rivas against Crosby but Chentouf (Save, 8) took the mound with one out and stranded the tying runners in scoring position. The 21-year-old University of Pittsburgh alum pitched a perfect ninth inning and improved to 8-for-8 in save opportunities during his first pro season.

Next up, the Tigers hit the road to New York City for the first time this season. The first of three games against the Staten Island Yankees begins at 7 p.m. on Thursday with Connecticut right-handed starter Carson Lance (1-3, 4.97) scheduled against Yankees righty Nolan Martinez (4-0, 1.42).
