Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - The Miami Marlins announced a series of transactions that impacts their Double-A affiliate Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp roster prior to tonight's game against the Mobile BayBears at Hank Aaron Stadium at 7:35 p.m. eastern.

Right-handed pitcher Jordan Yamamoto has been transferred from High-A Jupiter to Jacksonville. After beginning the season on the disabled list, Yamamoto was 4-1 with a 1.55 ERA in seven starts for the Hammerheads. He was recently named the Florida State League Pitcher of the Week on June 24 after he struck out a Jupiter franchise record of 13 batters in his start on June 20 against the Florida Fire Frogs. Yamamoto, 22, is regarded by MLB.com as the Marlins No. 19 prospect, and he was acquired by Miami as part of the Christian Yelich trade last January, along with current Shrimp teammates Isan Diaz and Monte Harrison.

In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Cody Poteet has been transferred from Jacksonville to High-A Jupiter. Poteet has made 15 stars for the Jumbo Shrimp, going 2-9 with a 5.95 ERA in his 75 and two-thirds innings of work.

Additionally, right-handed pitcher Ryan Newell has been transferred from rookie level Batavia to Jacksonville. Newell started the season on the restricted list, and only pitched in five games for the High-A Jupiter Hammerheads where he was 2-0 with a 1.42 ERA. Newell briefly pitched for Jacksonville in 2016, with no wins or losses and a 9.39 ERA in his two starts.

In a corresponding move, left-handed pitcher Chris Reed has been released by the Marlins organization. Reed pitched in one game for the Jumbo Shrimp, working two innings where he allowed an unearned run and took the loss in Game One of Jacksonville's doubleheader with Montgomery.

The Jumbo Shrimp roster stands at 25 active players, and a revised roster is attached.

The Jumbo Shrimp will open a series in Mobile at 7:35 p.m. Wednesday. Jacksonville returns home to begin a nine-game homestand with the opener of a four-game series against Chattanooga at 6:05 p.m. Sunday. Gates open at 5 p.m., when families can play catch on the field, followed by player autographs as part of Baptist Health Sunday Family FUNday presented by Wolfson Children's Hospital Rehab. Kids activities will be in the Wolfson Children's Hospital Kids Zone, and following the game, kids 12 and under can run the bases. Star Wars Night presented by Bowden Eye includes face painting, balloon animals, and the chance to meet Star Wars characters in person, thanks to the 501st Legion and WasabiCon. The game is presented by Easy 102.9.
