Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (45-38) fell to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (40-41), 7-2, in front of a season-high crowd of 7,285 fans on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Benton Moss (1-3), in his first start at home since April 30, could not find a rhythm. The right-hander gave up a lead-off triple to Jose Siri in the first before allowing the base-runner to score on an RBI-groundout by Shed Long.
The Blue Wahoos added to their advantage the following inning. Back-to-back singles by Brian O'Grady and Aristides Aquino had Pensacola threatening. After Taylor Sparks singled, loading the bases, Siri hit a grand slam for his fourth Double-A home run.
Ahead 5-0, the Blue Wahoos continued to thrash Moss, adding another score on a solo home run by Long in the third. Pensacola would plate seven unanswered runs, concluding its feast on a fifth-inning home run by Mitch Nay.
Blue Wahoos' starting pitcher Daniel Wright (4-5) frustrated Montgomery across 6.2 innings. The former Cincinnati Reds' hurler surrendered two runs, the first of which came on an RBI-single by Thomas Milone in the fifth.
Although Mike Brosseau blasted his eighth home run of the season in the seventh to cut the deficit to 7-2, Montgomery could muster no more runs against Pensacola's bullpen. The Blue Wahoos silenced the Biscuits' bats over the final 2.1 innings.
Montgomery continues a four-game set against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos on T-Shirt Thursday, featuring a Patriotic T-Shirt Giveaway, at 6:35 p.m. at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits will start an opener, who will be followed by Brandon Lawson (2-0). Pensacola will offer Wyatt Strahan (5-7).
The series also includes Video Game Night with several e-sports tournaments and MAX Fireworks on Friday, July 6, as well as Christmas in July and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, July 7.
