Luis Rengifo Named Southern League Player of Month for June

MOBILE, Ala. - Infielder Luis Rengifo from the Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, has been named Southern League Player of the Month for June.

Rengifo, 21, posted a .351 batting average (33-for-94) with a .470 on-base percentage. He led the BayBears with 10 stolen bases, 17 walks, and 27 runs scored. Rengifo had multiple hits in 11 of his 25 games played, including a four-hit game on June 4 at Chattanooga. He also had 11 extra-base hits with seven doubles, two triples, two home runs, and 11 RBIs.

The Venezuela native was acquired by the Angels on March 20, 2018 as the player to be named later in a trade that sent first baseman C.J. Cron to the Tampa Bay Rays. Rengifo joined the BayBears on May 22 from Class A Advanced Inland Empire and was named the Angels Minor League Player of the Month for May. He is currently the No. 27 prospect in the organization, according to MLB Pipeline.

The BayBears begin a four-game home series against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Wednesday, July 4, at 6:35 p.m. CDT.
