Florence Y'alls News Release

FLORENCE, KY - Florence used a pair of three-run innings in the fifth and sixth to take a commanding lead on the way to an 8-4 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies Sunday afternoon at Y'alls Ballpark.

The win marks the seventh of the season against Gateway (29-37) to take the season series, and the victory also gets Florence back in the win column to cap a four-win week at home. Florence also gains a game in the West Division race, now just two games back of Evansville for first place with just about a month left in the season.

With Florence up 2-0 thanks to RBI-hits from Andres Rios and Joe Lytle, the Y'alls took control in the middle innings. In the fifth, three runs crossed the plate against Jordan Barrett and then relief pitcher Carson Cupo. After the first two batters reached, Jose Brizuela brought home Lytle on a sacrifice fly. A few batters later, Rios ripped a double to plate another run, and Harrison DiNicola capped the scoring with an RBI-single.

One inning later, Rios and DiNicola were at it again with another RBI-single. Rios did not record an out in any of his five at-bats. He walked twice and drove in three runs. Two batters later, DiNicola brought home two runs with a single; he also had three hits and three runs batted in.

After six full innings, the Y'alls led 8-2. Gateway would get a run in each of the seventh and eighth innings, but it would not be enough. On the mound, Johnathon Tripp set the tone for the Y'alls with six strong innings with just two runs allowed. He struck out four and scatted five hits and a walk. The righty improves to 5-1 on the season.

Barrett labored through four 1/3 innings for the Grizzlies with four runs allowed and six walks. The southpaw did strike out five. Cupo could not stop the bleeding out of the bullpen with four runs across one 2/3 innings, although just one was earned. Offensively, Dustin Woodcock his two home runs and drove in three. All three of his hits in the series left the ballpark. Andres Regnault had a hit and an RBI, and Alonzo Jones Jr. had two hits.

The home stand continues for Florence this coming week after two consecutive off days on Monday and Tuesday. After the scheduling oddity, the Y'alls resume play on Wednesday, August 11, with a scheduled doubleheader versus Windy City. First pitch of the first game of the twin bill is set for 5:07p ET.
