Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (4-4), presented by Towne Properties, fell in game two of the two-game series to the Schaumburg Boomers by a final score of 12-3. This marks the first series the Y'alls have lost this season.
This game was all Schaumburg right from the beginning. A late scratch to scheduled starter Blake Loubier (calf) forced Ross Thompson on the bump for Florence. After a quick first two outs, Seth Gray and Ryan McCarthy launched back-to-back blasts to make it a 2-0 ballgame early.
Schaumburg, up 3-0 in the bottom of the third, got another two-run shot from Seth Gray who was followed by the fourth home run of the day from Kyle Fitzgerald, to make it a 6-0 game after just three innings.
Florence finally got on the board in the top of the fourth courtesy of a sacrifice fly from the Frontier League leader in RBIs, Zade Richardson. This was Richardson's 15th RBI through just eight games to start the season.
Thompson worked through five innings before he gave way to Shane Gustafson. In the sixth and seventh innings, Gustafson coughed up a few more runs after an RBI single and a two-run fielder's choice which made it a 9-0 ballgame heading to the eighth. Kent Kylman got the ball in the bottom of the eighth and gave up a few more runs to increase the Schaumburg lead to 12-1.
In their final inning, Florence received a two-run blast to straightaway center from Hank Zeisler to make it 12-3, which Schaumburg held onto for the final.
The Y'alls return home on Tuesday to open up a three-game series against the Gateway Grizzlies. Florence's ace Ryan Watson (1-0) returns to the mound after starting the season with 10 scoreless innings. Fans can enjoy $2 Tuesday which includes admission, beer, hot dogs, and ice cream for just $2 all night. First pitch is set for 6:42 p.m. ET with gates opening at 5:30.
