Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, Ky. - When Ray Zuberer homered to lead off the bottom of the seventh inning, signs pointed towards the Florence Y'alls (16-20) winning their tenth game in their last 12. That lead did not last, with the Gateway Grizzlies (19-19) scoring three runs in the eighth to secure a 5-3 victory at Thomas More Stadium on Saturday.
Andrew Penner, Jay Prather, and Jose Rosario all scored for Gateway in the top of the eighth. Prather, the go-ahead run, came home on a Bobby Brabrand wild pitch. Brabrand is responsible for the loss, with Sam Gardner earning the win.
Zuberer's home run against Gardner was the only hit the Grizzlies' bullpen surrendered in 4.2 innings pitched. Florence scored a pair of runs in the fifth inning against starter Steven Ridings. Axel Johnson and Alberti Chavez each recorded an RBI.
Florence welcomed a paid attendance of 3,494, its largest crowd of the season, on Margaritaville night at the ballpark. The Y'alls wore Hawaiian shirts, and a nearly sold-out lower bowl followed suit.
Grant Hockin, a reliever turned starter for the Y'alls, turned in five innings of two-run ball. Two of the three hits he allowed were solo home runs. Kent Klyman, Darwin Ramos, Bobby Brabrand, and Joe Dougherty all came out of the Florence bullpen.
This matchup was the 150th all-time between the Florence and Gateway organizations. The Y'alls have won 71 of those contests. Tomorrow's game serves as a rubber match, with the Y'alls going for a fifth consecutive series victory.
Florence's starter for tomorrow is still to be announced. Clint Freeman, a two-way player for Gateway, is their scheduled starter. First pitch is 1:07 p.m. from Thomas More Stadium.
