Ottawa Titans News Release
Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Titans (24-11) fell by a 5-1 final on Saturday, as the New York Boulders tied up the series at a game a piece.
The Boulders got on the board in the top of the second after Giovanni Garbella and Gian Martellini singled against Titans starter Tyler Jandron (loss, 4-2), bringing up Gabriel Garcia with one out. Garcia bounced a Jandron offering to the left side of the infield, right at shortstop Taylor Wright, who threw wide of second baseman Jackie Urbaez on a double-play attempt. The airmailed toss ended up in shallow right field, allowing Garbella to score from second.
In the third, Jandron retired the first two in order, before a two-out single and a walk, brought up Martellini. The Boulders catcher drilled a double to the corner in left, plating two to make it a 3-0 game.
Right-hander Alex Mack (win, 3-0) was fantastic on the bump for the Boulders on Saturday, as the Titans were only able to put three runners on base over the first four innings.
Austin Dennis extended the Boulders' lead with a two-out solo blast over the fence in the top half of the fifth against Jandron, making it 4-0.
In the bottom half, Rodrigo Orozco drew a walk, as Jackie Urbaez stepped up to the dish two batters later. Urbaez grounded a base hit to right, getting the Titans on the board as Orozco came across to score.
The fifth inning run would be all Mack would allow on Saturday, as the righty went seven and two-thirds, allowing one run on four hits, walking three, and striking out eight in the victory.
After Jandron served up a lead-off walk in the seventh, the Titans went to the bullpen for newcomer Kaleb Schmidt. Following a wild pitch, Garbella plated Max Smith with a sac fly, making it 5-1.
Jandron was tagged with the loss, going six and a third, allowing five runs (three earned), on seven hits, walking two, and punching out six.
The Boulders got the final four outs from lefty Ryan Munoz, who allowed a single and a walk over an inning and a third, helping to snap the visitors' four-game skid.
The Ottawa Titans finish their six-game home stand, playing the rubber match of their three-game series with the New York Boulders tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. from Ottawa Stadium.
