Y'alls, Jackals Split First Ever Meetings

New Jersey Jackals News Release

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - Due to inclement weather imposing its will over the tri-state area, the New Jersey Jackals had to wait one extra day before facing the Florence Y'Alls for the first time ever. The rain-out on Friday set up a double-header on Brooks Carey Bobblehead Night at Yogi Berra Stadium. Florence took game one, 6-3, before the Jackals walked-off the Y'Alls in game 2, 3-2.

The Jackals took a 1-0 lead in the first contest, thanks to a Santiago Chirino RBI single to right, scoring Todd Isaacs.

Into the third inning, Jackals starter Dylan Brammer had only surrendered one hit, a single. Florence would break open the game in the third, however, sending ten batters to the plate and scored six runs. The first came in on an RBI double from Axel Johnson, tying the score at one. Chad Sedio followed that with a two run homer to make it 3-1 Florence and Jordan Brower would deliver the knockout punch with another three run shot to make it 6-1 visitors.

Jared Milch would come on in relief and after walking the first batter he faced, he retired 13 straight to conclude the game.

Justin Wylie slammed a two run home run of his own in the fourth inning, but that was all the offense New Jersey could muster, dropping a 6-3 decision.

In the second game, Florence struck first in the 4th inning when Connor Crane reached on a throwing error by Justin Wylie, which allowed Brower and Jose Brizuela to score, setting the advantage at 2-0 for the Y'Alls.

It was deja vu all over again for Wylie in the bottom of the 4th, cutting the Florence lead in half for the second time on the day with a home run. This one was a solo shot off the video board in right-center, making it 2-1. Isaacs would tie the game in the 5th, scoring on a passed ball.

In the bottom of the 7th, Dalton Combs stepped to the plate with the bases loaded. Nicco Toni had reached second on a throwing error by Sedio. Riley Mihalik singled to put runners at 1st and 3rd and Santiago Chirino was intentionally walked to set up a potential double play. With Florence employing a five man infield, Combs lifted a 3-2 pitch through the rain-drops into left field which dropped, scored Toni and set off the fireworks in celebration.

The Jackals are now 32-43 on the season, and will carry that record into a three-game set against the rival Sussex County Miners on Tuesday. The threat posed by Hurricane Henri has washed out Sunday's contest and it will not be made up, as this series was the only time Florence and New Jersey would meet this season.

The Jackals will return to Yogi Berra Stadium on Friday, August 27 to take on the New York Boulders. On Saturday, the 28th, the Jackals will take the field as the Jersey Wise Guys, with a jersey auction taking place throughout the game and fireworks to follow. Tickets are available for all three games at jackals.com.
