Slammers Fall in Game Three Loss to Windy City

JOLIET, IL - With the series deciding game falling on this afternoon's game, Joliet sent Chris Roycroft to the mound. The Slammers hoped to keep their bats alive after Saturday night's home run derby win. Windy City came to play today, scoring 15 runs to the Slammers' 3. The 15-3 loss sees the ThunderBolts take the series two games to one.

Windy City would strike first in the top of the second inning putting three runs on the board. Nikola Vasic would advance to first on an error by the Joliet second basemen, letting Jace Mercer score an unearned run. A single hit by Payton Robertson would allow yet another unearned run score as Rob Weissheier crossed the plate. Nikola Vasic would score unearned on a single by Brynn Martinez.

Joliet took no time to respond,as they chalked up three runs in their turn at bat in the bottom half of the second. A three run long ball hit into Power Alley by Jordan Rathbone leveled the score. Kyle Jacobsen and Lane Baremore would score on the homer, with the game evened up at 3 all.

A swift response by the ThunderBolts in the top of the third would see three more runs scored. An RBI single from Jack Strunc would score Jace Mercer. With two RBIs off a triple hit by Nikola Vasic would see Zack Taylor and Jack Strunc cross the plate. The three runs gave Windy City a 6-3 lead.

The top of the fourth would see a call to the bullpen by Joliet as right hander Brett Smith took to the mound relieving Chris Roycroft after four innings pitched. Roycroft would face 19 batters while on the bump. Windy City would score a single run in the top half of the fourth with a solo home run hit by Payton Isaacson. The tally read 7-3.

Tyler Jandron would take to the mound in the top of the sixth for the Slammers. Jandron relieved Smith after two innings on the mound. In the top of the sixth, Windy City further extended their lead by two more runs for a 9-3 lead. Jace Mercer would advance to first on a fielder's choice. An error by the Slammers' catcher would allow Payton Isaacson to advance to second, then to third, and the play would open the door for Brynn Martinez to score. Payton Isaacson would score during Rob Weissheier's at bat, as Mercer got into a rundown allowing Isaacson to cross home plate.

A Joliet call to the bullpen in the top of the inning would see Conner Anderson take to the hill relieving Jandron. The ThunderBolts' bats came alive in the top of the seventh as 6 runs would cross the plate giving them a big 15-3 lead. A sacrifice fly by Brynn Martinez would score a run. Dan Robinson would hit an RBI single in his at bat for another run scored. Payton Isaacson would put an RBI single into play tallying up a run. A homer by Jace Mercer would put the final three up on the board.

Another call to the bullpen in the top of the eighth for the Slammers would see Brad VanAsdlen take the mound. Anderson would be relieved after one inning on the mound.

The score remained at 15-3 through the eighth and ninth innings. The lead set by Windy City proved to be a hill too big to climb with the Slammers falling to Windy City. Today's loss put the Slammers season record at 28-48.
