Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (20-19), presented by Towne Properties, fell behind early and never regained the lead in a 14-4 defeat to the Evansville Otters (23-16) on Sunday.
Florence righthander Donovan Armas ran into immediate trouble in his first professional start. The Otters scored a pair in the first inning when left fielder Noah Myers drew a leadoff walk and scored on designated hitter Dakota Phillips' double. Right fielder Jeffrey Baez then hit a sacrifice fly to score Phillips from third base and give the Otters a 2-0 lead. Evansville scored again in the second when second baseman Ethan Skender doubled, advanced to third on a groundout, and came in to score on a wild pitch. In the third inning, Evansville added two more runs on RBIs from Jeffrey Baez and first baseman Aaron Beck. After two and a half, the Otters led 5-0.
Florence's lone bright spot came in the third inning. After right fielder Ray Zuberer doubled with one out, first baseman Brennan Price hit a two-run home run to cut the Evansville lead to 5-2. The homer marked Price's fifth in his last six games.
The Otters immediately answered with three more runs in the fourth inning. Center fielder Kona Quiggle tacked on an RBI single before Dakota Phillips smacked a two-run home run. Phillips finished 4-for-5 with three doubles, a home run, and five RBI on the day.
The Y'alls would never come closer as Evansville tacked on three more runs in the sixth and three in the seventh against the Y'alls' relief corps. The loss hands Florence its first series loss on the homestand, first series loss against Evansville this year, and drops the team to a single game above .500.
Florence is off Monday before beginning a three-game series versus the Trois-Rivieres Aigles. Game 1 between Florence and Trois-Rivieres is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27th at 6:32 p.m. ET.
