San Jose Earthquakes News Release
Earthquakes head coach Frank Yallop and assistant coach Dominic Kinnear will be in England and Scotland for the next two-to-three weeks on what the coaching staff is billing as an "educational trip." Yallop and Kinnear will attend numerous matches and training sessions in an effort to learn new techniques as well as scout for potential Earthquakes players. Yallop and Kinnear are planning to watch several reserve squad games while also taking in the Newcastle vs. Inter Milan, Everton vs. Sunderland, West Ham vs. Southampton and Glasgow Celtic vs. Celta Vigo matches. The Earthquakes coaching staff will observe training sessions at Newcastle, Glasgow Celtic, West Ham and Ipswich Town among others.
Project-40
San Jose Earthquakes forward Devin Barclay, defender Eddie Robinson and goalkeeper Jon Conway were selected to the Nike Project-40 team that is currently on a trip to Germany and Holland for a six-game tour. The players left Friday, November 22, and will return on Friday, December 6. The Nike Project-40 team will take part in the tour that features a group of young MLS stars playing six games against the reserve teams of several top Dutch and German clubs. The team will face the reserve squads of Germany's Borussia Moenchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund and Holland's PSV Eindhoven, Utrecht and Volendam. Barclay is a member of the Project-40 program, while Robinson and Conway were invited by Project-40 Head Coach Glenn Myernick.

Earthquakes In The Community
-Earthquakes All-Star midfielder Richard Mulrooney was in Milipitas last Saturday afternoon, signing autographs at the Metro PAL Soccer Tournament at Hall Park. Mulrooney signed autographs and gave pointers to the Under 10 and Under 12 boys and girls players.
-Mulrooney and Quakes teammates Joe Cannon, Jon Conway and Jimmy Conrad attended the PASS (Promoting Achievement in School through Sport) Program Benefit in San Francisco at the California Culinary Academy on November 19. The benefit raised funds for the PASS Program, which is a year course that shows middle and high school students how to utilize the study and practice of sport to improve their academic and athletic skills. The program creates a sense of place and belonging, focus, discipline, leadership, responsibility and compassion in students. PASS and PASS-based programs will be presented to students in the Bay Area, Portland, Los Angeles, Chicago and Raleigh. All Pass Programs have been developed by the non-profit, Marin based American Sports Institute, which is dedicated to serving humankind through sport and physical education.

After gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated and ESPN The Magazine this summer, Quakes forward Landon Donovan is a cover boy once again. Donovan appears on the cover of the box of the just released EA Sports FIFA 2003 video game.
Earthquakes in Champions Cup
The San Jose Earthquakes will play in the CONCACAF Champions Cup in 2003, marking the second season in a row the club will participate in the 16-team tournament that crowns the champion of the CONCACAF region covering North and Central America and the Caribbean. The Earthquakes qualified for the tournament by earning the second most points during the 2002 MLS regular season. The Quakes will be joined in the tournament by the Los Angeles Galaxy (MLS Cup Champions), the New England Revolution (MLS Cup runner-ups), and the Columbus Crew (U.S. Open Cup Champions) along with 12 other teams from the region. The Earthquakes participated in the Champions Cup in 2002 after winning the 2001 MLS Cup and advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating CD Olimpia of Honduras on the road 1-0 and 3-1 at home in the Round of 16. San Jose was defeated in the quarterfinals by Pachuca CF of Mexico on goal differential, losing 3-0 in Mexico at Estadio Hidalgo and winning 1-0 at Spartan Stadium.
